Prompt engineering sounds technical, but at its core it is something business people already know: giving a clear brief. The people who get the most out of AI are rarely the most technical. They are the clearest thinkers.
A good prompt is a good brief Think about how you would brief a smart new colleague. You would explain the context, the goal, who the audience is, what to avoid and what the result should look like. AI needs exactly the same things.
A simple structure that works
- Role and context: who the output is for and what situation you are in.
- Task: what you want done, in one clear sentence.
- Constraints: length, tone, language, what must be included or avoided.
- Format: a list, a table, an email, three options to compare.
- Examples: one sample of what good looks like, if you have it.
